About

Knappco is a residential building practice based in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in timber framing, architectural carpentry, and custom residential construction. Our work is rooted in careful planning, quality craftsmanship, and close collaboration with homeowners, architects, and tradespeople.

Founded by John Knapp, a licensed general contractor and timber framer, Knappco draws on a background in traditional building, hands-on construction, and a deep appreciation for architecture. John is a graduate of the American College of the Building Arts, where he studied timber framing, architectural history, preservation, drafting, and the building trades. That education is complemented by experience working on timber framing and construction projects across the United States and abroad, exposing him to a wide range of building traditions, materials, and approaches to craft.

Whether building a timber frame, crafting architectural details, or managing a larger residential project, Knappco is committed to thoughtful construction, quality materials, and work that stands the test of time.

Thoughtful structures, built to last.
